Call Of Duty has become one of the most popular franchises this console generation and becoming an industry standard. The series has made its mark with its well crafted singleplayer campaigns and its mind blowing addictive multiplayer. And has created other great gameplay experiences as well such as Operations and of course the popular Zombies. Now as the new generation of consoles begins Call Of Duty is attempting the jump with its latest installment Ghosts to bring the series to the next generation.
Story:

An aggregate military superpower made of several governments known as The Federation had taken control of an orbital kinetic bombardment weapon known as ODIN and used it to destroy several cities within the southwestern United States. After ten years have passed both the United States and The Federation have fought each other into an overall stalemate for control over the country. You assume the role of Logan Walker an American soldier who operates several missions with his older brother David Walker and is under the command of his father Elias Walker. Both brothers are then recruited to an operation task force called Ghosts who carry out special operations to bring down The Federation and are currently tasked with capturing special Federation agent Rorke an earlier Ghost who seeks revenge against his former Ghosts.

The story overall is somewhat stale due to uninteresting characters and organizations and improper motives of the antagonist and unexplained reasoning for the conflict. The Ghosts themselves are nothing more than the typical special task force we have seen in other games. Also the motives that drive Rorke into betraying all his former friends and to side with his enemies are pretty pathetic and somewhat unsettling.  And last any reasons for why The Federation is currently attacking America in an attempt to take over are never explained for any reason.

Gameplay:

The standard controls of moving your character and aiming your weapon feels just as good as it always has with no need to fix. Although after eight years of the same game over and over again you think the ability to customize the button layout would be standard. Another small issue is that cutting open windows or hacking computer terminals could be more interactive.

Design:

The singleplayer campaign is pretty much just as fun as you would expect to be with minor issues. The artificial intelligence of your enemies will occasionally do something idiotic but for the most part is competent. And sometimes there are certain areas where the game does not checkpoint you enough which can be irritating. The level design is really good with areas like the destroyed cities of Las Vegas and San Diego and for the first time space.

The multiplayer is also just as addictive as it is always been with some slight improvements to keep it fresh and try new things. Perks are now divided into seven different categories and are weighted between one to five points and you are given eight points in total to distribute between the different perks you want. Customization has also been greatly improved you can now customize your outfit in different areas with different accessories and finally for the first time female solider are available for play. You can now acquire new weapons and gear either by leveling up as with previous games or purchasing with squad points earned during matches.

One brand new mode Infinity Ward has created to rival with Treyarch and their Zombie mode is the new Extinction which up to four can play. This new mode has you fighting against aliens and your objective is to destroy the hive the aliens spawn from while completing specific challenges. You earn money by destroying aliens and hives which can be used to purchase new weapons and to set traps and use special abilities. Extinction is pretty fun and is much easier and better played when other players are aboard although for some people it can get boring after an hour playing.

Presentation:

As an early next gen game it does not take full effect of the graphical abilities of the Xbox One but none the less look great over its current versions. Like with previous games the soundtrack is good but this particular one is not as interesting as Sean Murray who worked with Black Ops. Voice acting is good with the works of Stephen Lang who played Miles Quaritch in Avatar and Clark Kent from Superman Return Brandon Routh.

Final Thoughts:

While not as strong as the previous work Infinity Ward did with the Modern Warfare trilogy Ghosts is yet another good shooter that keeps the good times rolling. It will not set the next generation blazing but it very greatly remains an upright choice for next generation adapters. And of course for any shooters fans or Call Of Duty fanatics you have most likely played through it already.

Overall: 4/5
